On behalf of Denise, myself, and the class of Cohuna High School 1958, we offer our condolences and deepest sympathy to Judy, Kane, Kelly, and their families on the passing of Kevin Ross Anset. Our thoughts are also with Jeanine and her family on the loss of her elder brother.
One of my earliest memories of Ross, as he became known to all of us, was when he walked across what we called the wreck at Cohuna High School with another mob of boys who lived around the Cohuna saleyards area. For those arriving by bus, it was quite an awesome sight to see so many entering high school together. Hence, he became part of the class of 86 of 1958, made up of scholars, high achievers, those not too keen on school who would become great tradesmen, and a few scallywags who also succeeded in life’s journey. What was also noticeable about Ross was just how small he seemed amongst the whole group of boys. Thankfully, that changed, and Ross grew quickly during his high school years to become one of the neat young men of the class of 58. As a student, Ross was quite diligent, but he could also be led astray occasionally and was not backward about getting involved in all those school pranks students of that era got up to. One of the most notable pranks Ross was involved in was burying a fellow student under a heap of paper in art class, making it look like a creative art project. Then, when the art teacher appeared, the person inside popped out, much to the teacher’s surprise and the creative boys’ delight. Ross was keen on football and cricket and participated competitively and strongly in all activities he undertook. Ross strictly adhered to the code of not dobbing in a fellow student when a teacher was looking for the student who had done the wrong thing or disrupted the class.

After leaving school, Ross started an electrical apprenticeship, which took him through several workplaces, where he learned and picked up many skills and knowledge along the way. At the same time, his social life then blossomed, and he met Judy Dickinson, who quickly became the love of his life.
Once married, their life changed, and Ross became a postmaster in the small rural town of Mitiamo. There, Judy and Ross started their family with the arrival of Kane and then later Kelly. On their return to Cohuna, where Ross had used the skills he’d acquired to build their home, he joined the workforce at Kraft Foods Leitchville in electrical maintenance.
Ross always had a very humorous nature and some quirky sayings to match his wit. He maintained many friendships and created many others, which we have all had the pleasure of experiencing. As so often said, there are many ways to judge life, be that by wealth, by title or status, or some other judgement criteria. In Ross’s case, he was one of those people you met who enriched your life by his presence, his comments, his willingness to listen, his advice when required and, above all, by simply being himself. Over the years, the class of 1958 have been lucky enough to have several school reunions, which Ross enjoyed. High school was a big change in all of our lives at the time, and when reflected on, it gave us direction and vision for what we were all capable of achieving.

Ross and Judy together were a formidable and loving couple. They faced many challenges raising their family, supporting other family members, and providing comfort and support wherever possible. No doubt, in recent times, Ross dealt with a lot through his own health battles. Still, I also enjoyed the times I was able to spend with him, talking about old memories and getting his strong point of view on many others. These moments Denise, I, and others will always cherish and remember, for it is people who make life the enjoyment of living.
Ross, it is now time to say farewell,

Ross, your life journey had many highlights, as well as many challenges. When we look back, there is no doubt Ross would have graduated with distinction.
