I know he was a great man because he had a family devoted to him. He was a “trooper” to the very end. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Deepest sympathy to Lois and family. Doug was a passionate, persistent and knowledgeable advocate for local irrigators over many years for which we are all grateful. He spoke up, wrote letters and approached influential people to put a point with strength and good humour. One of his legacies is to have encouraged others to be informed and active, but always keep smiling. Our thoughts are with you as you celebrate a life lived fully and lay him to rest. Margot and Stephen Henty
Dear Lois and family,
We very sorry to learn of Doug’s passing, You have both been wonderfull neighbours for over 44 years and Dad and I have very fond memories of Doug in his blue terry towelling hat.
Twas at the Gunbower races one year that Doug very generously bestowed a neighbourly discount on a very long bet which made it home first. You can imagine Doug’s rebuttal when I fronted up to collect my unexpected and significant winnings.
We cannot be with you tomorrow to see Doug off but our thoughts will be with you.We will all miss running into him in Kennedy’s road and watching him ski passed our house with style.
The Clavin Family.
Dear Lois and family. So many memories over so many years. Hay carting was never the same after the Stone days! Margaret and I offer our sympathies and hope you all find comfort in all the friendships you and Doug have! Keith.
Dear Lois and family, Doug was much loved by the Graham family and will be sadly missed. No doubt Doug and Doc will be causing a ruckus up there somewhere and Mum will be trying to pull them into line!!
Love Louise,Hamish and Fiona Graham and families

Douglas Henry Stone or “Stoney” as he was commonly known as by many or “Old SOL” to others was for many decades along with his entire family an integral part of our family as we as a group watched our kids play together, holiday together and grow together over those decades of continuing and lasting friendship.
To be known as Stoney is obviously just an extension of his surname but the origin of the nickname “SOL” has been lost with the passing of time – it could well have been back to the bookmaking days when we laid the favourite and it got up SOL “Sadly Our Loss”
But today it has only one meaning SOL “Stoney Our Love”

Fond memories of long ago when we were neighbours and our families were seeing each other on a daily basis at the school bus stop & Dad & Doug & all the other “highway men” having such a great bond & friendship with their common interest of dairy farming and the odd beer or 3 !!!
