On behalf of Denise and I, we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Marie, Ian, Helen and the wider Baker family on the passing of Allison Elizabeth {Betty} Baker.
Betty, as we all affectionately know her, was very much part of the Leitchville community throughout her life’s journey. Betty, along with her late husband, Don, has always been a highly valued community member, contributing so much to the goings-on and the well-being of the community, which is why they gave so much.
Betty gave her most substantial contribution to the raising of her family, the support of her husband in the business, to a wide range of sporting activities, particularly in netball and to the social well-being of Leitchville itself. For many of us, Betty was often referred to as our unofficial mayor for her continued contribution to various committees and organisations, providing so much history and always seeking to promote her community in whatever way she could.
Quotation
Life is my University, I hope to graduate with distinction, Louise May Alcott.
Betty would consider her life a normal one; in reality, it was far from this, as she took every opportunity that came her way to continue to learn, always inquisitive, ready to offer support and advice, at times being a great backstop for many people. Along with her open, welcoming personal approach to life, Betty continued to graduate, always trying to achieve a higher level of giving to others, along with the pride of the achievements of her family that they have made and continue to make in their life journey.
One can judge life in so many ways, but the most important of all is the people you meet along the way who enrich our lives.
Betty was one of those people, whether you met for a short period or you had known her over a more extended period, who always left you feeling much better for such a personal encounter. You come away each time after discussion with Betty, much more informed, or perhaps you needed advice, or to offer some help or are prepared to undertake a task for you if required. For the residents of Leitchville and the surrounding areas, as well as all her friends and acquaintances near and far, Betty enriched many personal lives, with each of us having a story or memory to cherish from such encounters.
Every day of Betty’s life was a continual University; she graduated with distinction and honours.
So, as we say farewell to Betty for her friendship and contribution to our lives, we would like to leave the Baker family with these two verses,
I expect to pass through this world but once
Any good, therefore, that I can do
Or any kindness that I can show
Let me do it now
Let me not defer or neglect for
I shall not pass this way again
Life’s race well-run,
Life’s work well done
Life’s victory won
Now come with the rest.
EH Parker
As we say farewell to Betty Baker, may she rest peacefully and thanks for the many memories which we will cherish forever.
