To know Barrie was to like/love him. He, with his family, was a very important part of my life in Normanville and Kerang. Along with his unfailing good humour, he was always good for a stimulus. As an example, there are two small, but for me special, memories: one was at Normanville State School when he and Bob Williams (the Big Boys in the school) made an artistic breakthrough – they invented a new colour while doing Art: it was black through which were threads of yellow (from another brush?). They called it “Tack” – I thought the name was as clever as the discovery itself.
The second was when Barrie gave me (four years younger) my first mathematics lesson. Our family was invited to Baulches for the evening meal and Barrie had just started at Kerang High School. He told me all about Algebra, how you used letters instead of numbers, how association meant multiplication, etc etc. He was enthusiastic, and It was clear and concise and exciting. And then there was his skill at flying. And his genius at things mechanical – all in addition to his human qualities.
Dear Irene, Sharon, Nigel, Gayle and Di and extended families,
Our deepest sympathies to you all on the sad loss of Barrie. Such a wonderful character and a great source of knowledge. You will all miss him greatly as will the wider community. He had a deep passion for the museum, his second love after his family. Keep your many memories close.
No more pain.
Thinking of you all at this sad time.
Love,
Peter and Lesley and family ❤️

To Irene and family. Dingwall was shut for a period when I attended school at Normanville. Barrie was more interested in Bird nesting and we would scoot off during lessons.Barrie provided taxi services for me to go into Kerang on Saturday nights. He was my Best man when Mary and I married. On that day at the Southern Cross hotel in Melbourne an advert was being made for Coon cheese. You can guess who was guilty of unplugging the power. Result end of advert making for a time.
His wit and dry sense of humour was wonderful. He was always up to a prank or two as we were growing up.Barrie will be greatly missed by Irene and his family plus the community.

A man with a great wit and sense of humour, always ready to offer a hand and impart his knowledge when it was needed. One of the first things that happened when Barrie and Irene became our neighbours 12 years ago was to put a gate in the fence between our properties and the hinges have never had a chance to to go rusty. Alyne and Claire.

The Kerang Historical Society sends its deepest condolences to Irene, Sharon, Nigel, Gayle, Diane and their families.
Barrie was a loyal, hard working volunteer at the museum, always willing to impart his knowledge about engines and machinery, when needed.
The highlight of our monthly meetings, was Barrie’s report of the workshop activities. This was always done with Barrie’s comical wit.
We will miss you Barrie.
To Irene, Sharon, Nigel, Gayle, Diane and families and Geoff and family. Our deepest sympathy and thoughts are with you all at this sad time. Childhood memories are great and as I remember our Normanville school days and our lifelong friendship of my cousin. Barry’s whit and sense of humour will be sadly missed. Your loss is very raw, but we all smile as our many memories of the great times we have had together over the years are precious and cannot not be lost. Rest in Peace Baz. You have not deserved the pain you have been through over the past months. Love to you all, Graeme & Lorraine
