On behalf of Denise, Max and the Fehring family,
We extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Ann, Lucie, Tim, Matt, and their families on the passing of Rob.
For Denise and me, it has been one of the longest associations with Rob and his life journey, starting from his early days, particularly when he was an active participant in the Young Farmer Organisation (YFO). In those days, Rob brought so much to many of us young people with his enthusiasm, engaging us through his outgoing nature and encouraging us to take responsibility as YFO members, ready to stand for any position within the club, with a passion for debating and social activities.
Rob’s lifetime partner, Ann, significantly contributes to the place where the magic happens, helping to create a wonderful family while also giving back to the community in various ways. Rob, also known as Shanny, has made valuable contributions to farmer organisations, the Show Society, his beloved Lions Club, his church, and many other organisations.

Kindness is the oil that takes the friction out of life, unknown author
Rob was never afraid to express his views or speak his mind, as this was his way of providing leadership and support to his family and all those involved with him through community groups or personal connections.
Whenever Rob sensed that someone needed support and encouragement, he also offered attentive listening and kindness that would uplift people, helping them move forward or take on greater responsibilities.
For us, Shanny has always been someone we could rely on for conversation and seek advice and opinions, knowing the sincerity and respect that come with such discussions.
Life is a continual journey; it is the people you meet along the way who enrich your life, making it interesting and enjoyable. Rob enriched many lives time after time. He could turn difficult conversations and moments at meetings or other places into opportunities, providing us all with a different perspective and a sense of reality, often changing the demeanour of the situation.
I’ve known Rob to have many names attached to him; the name that used to go with him was the Red Baron, derived from the First World War fighter pilot who often found himself in difficult situations but usually managed to get out of them.
In bidding farewell to Rob, along with his love for his community, he was always an ambassador for Cohuna and the district, ensuring it remained on the map.
There is a set of words that say it all, referencing a piece of machinery nearby in Marong.
I expect to pass through this world, but once
Any good therefore that can I do
Or any kindness that I can show
Let me do it now
Let me not defer or neglect for
I shall not pass this way again
As we say farewell to Robert William Shanahan, our deepest thoughts will be with the family. Hopefully, they will be able to cherish the memories and the proud contributions that he made to so many.
Life’s race well-run,
Life’s work well done,
Life’s victory one,
Now cometh the rest

It has been an honour to have known him, and able to support him within the Lions Club when I (Des) was a member.
He truly was a gentleman and he just loved his family, and his life and was always a goer. Rest in peace dear Rob, and we’ll keep our clock in it special spot always, our love and best wishes to you all from Des and Marie Hudson.
On behalf of Kimmy Mens’ Morning Coffee Group,
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Ann, Lucie, Tim, Matt, and their families for the passing of Robert.
Robert was a valuable member of our group; one always knew that he would participate in whatever subject arose in such a diverse group of people and ideas.
Robert contributed history, certainly had a strong point of view and was prepared to express that convincingly, cared for others and always gave to others support and encouragement and when it was most needed.
He was admired by us all for his courage, encouragement, and the desire to keep himself going and participate in the well-being of others.

It takes rain and sunshine to make a rainbow, an unknown author once said.
His life’s journey has been through many a rainstorm, always endeavouring to look on the bright side and, above all, being prepared to give and commit to the community, which has a long legacy of various organisations that have received his 100% commitment.
He always endeavoured to bring a Ray of sunshine, even when a meeting or an issue was causing a little bit of grief; he would display an angle, a comment, or a sense of humour that gave people breathing space in the decision process.
Robert, or “Shanny” as he is often known to us, has left us with many a rainbow. Each of us has a personal moment spent with Rob, along with a personal story that one could tell all, leaving you with an enriched moment while in his presence.
Our thoughts will be with the family. Although it’s a sad time, there are just so many memories to cherish, and there is much to be proud of. Robert and his family were one-of-a-kind.

To Ann, Tim, Lucie, and Matt, my dearest sympathy on the passing of Robert. He was a wonderful brother and great mate as we grew up together. With Anne (elder sister) firmly in charge, Robert and I fell in behind, and we had such a wonderful upbringing at Halcooma. As a kid, Robert was a shadow of Dad; wherever Dad went, Robert wasn’t far behind. You will always be in our hearts and remembered with love.
Nyrie.
Ann, Tim, Lucie and Matt, deepest sympathy on the passing of Rob.

Heartfelt condolences to all. Aunty Ann, Tim, Lucie, Matt, spouses, and grandkids, there is a gap for us all with the passing of Uncle Rob, and we offer our deepest sympathies to you. Uncle Rob had many gifts, but one of the most prominent was the gift of storytelling! We don’t recall a time when we would stop by Halcooma that he didn’t seek us out and have a comical story to share. But before he would wind himself toward a punchline, he always made it a point to ask how we were, and time had a way of slowing down when we were with Uncle Rob. As we got older (and when they were not present), he loved to reminisce about the wonderful things that Tim, Luce, and Matt had done, and while it was abundantly clear how proud he was of them, the ending always had a humorous or sarcastic twist. The vivid memories of him working in the dairy or crafting wood remain etched. Rest in Peace, Uncle Rob.
Love & prayers to Ann & family on the loss of Rob. Always enjoyed a chat with Rob, such an interesting gentleman. RIP.
